个人简介
Professor Mahmoud AL-Azab is a distinguished professor of Guangzhou Medical University and a Nanshan scholar. Dr. AL-Azab Mahmoud received his Ph.D. from Dalian Medical University in 2019 and then did postdoctoral research at the Guangzhou Women and Children Medical Center jointly with Institute of Immunology and Infection, Shanghai, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He joined Guangzhou Medical University in November 2024. Professor Mahmoud AL-Azab has strong academic background in immunology, medical microbiology, and cellular signaling pathways. His area of expertise is the exploring of the underling mechanisms of inflammatory diseases, autoimmune and autoinflammatory diseases, in order to introduce the possible therapeutic strategies. His work published at Nature Immunology, Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Immunology, and Nature Cardiovascular Research journals.
Since he started job at Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center-China, he worked on a project focusing to understand the role of NAS-TLRs regulator, UNC93B1, in the underline mechanisms of systemic lupus erythematosus. In another project, the work focused to discover the role of REXO2 exonuclease in the pathogenesis of persistent skin rash. In this project, a novel human interferonopathy caused by a dominant negative mutation in REXO2 was identified.
As a Nan Shan scholar backbone talent professor at Guangzhou Medical University, he is working in promising projects focusing to understand the role of UNC93B1 in age-associated autoreactive B cells development, the role of neutrophils in model with IRF2 knock out, and Rexo2 as a target in immunotherapy.
